Homework is given every day and every week including weekends.  You are required to complete the weekday homework  in your notebook.  These are to be handed in at the end of the week. 

Week 17 (6/3/13) - (6/7/13)

 

Please see below the links for the Jessica Budgeting activity.  This is due Monday 10th,  June 2013.  You are required to present the activity which you have already completed the bulk of the work in class, on construction paper.  Please use the format of the sample chart that is in the link below.  All group members should have similar expenses and totals.

Contintue working on the Budgeting Game

Week 15 (5/20/13 - 5/24/13)

Budgeting Game Due 6/7/13

You are required to play the online game interactivity "Bank it or Bust" to utilize the financial management concepts and strategies you have learned.   In this game you will create and modify a budget and then stick to it for 2 weeks with the goal of buying a car.

After playing the interactive game you are required to list some strategies for saving money.  

Name things that happened to you during the game which provided you with extra cash.

Name some "emergencies" that occurred that required to you to use some of your savings.

Display the information for 2-4 on construction paper or you can place it on a chart.  Be creative with your presentation.  You can use graphic organizers and pictures.

 

Week 15 (5/13/13 - 5/17/13)

Read the handout based upon personal finance.

Prepare for a test/quiz on Monday 5/20/13

 

All assignments must be completed by the Tuesday 5/8/13.  Our business exhibition will be on Monday 5/13/13 in the library.  All students must arrive at the school by 8:00 am

Week 14 (5/6/13 - 5/10/13)

Final conferences will be held on Thursday 5/9/13 and Friday 5/10/13.  Your presentation board and your binder will be reviewed by me during this time.

The following must be emailed by midnight on 5/7/13

a. Impact of local, state, federal unemployment rates and minimum wage on your business (negative and/or positive) 2 paragraphs

b. Effect of government regulations on your business (negative and/or positive) 2 paragraphs.

c. demand schedule and demand curve (graph)

d. supply schedule and supply curve (graph)

 

The following must be emailed by midnight on 5/8/13

a. Three changes in demand and 3 changes in supply that affect your business

b. The cost of creating a single unit and how many must be sold to break even.

Week 13 (4/29/13 - 5/3/13)

1. Create a Print Ad.  This is basically a brochure advertising your business and its products. 
2. Create a floor plan.  This shows the layout of your business; where you will place your machinery, inventory, desk, customer wating area etc.  Free floor plans can be created using tools at http://www.gliffy.com/gliffy/#templateId=blank&signup=1.  Minimum size  is 8.5 x 11 this must be legible.

3.Continue working on your presentation board.  Ensure that you view the powerpoint based upon the sample presentation boards for science and social studies projects.  Be creative as possible with your board.  Check the rubric that was given to you in class to ensure you place all the required elements on your board.

4. Complete your coupon and business cards.  See the powerpoint for sample coupons, floor plans and print ad

Week 12 (4/22/13 - 4/26/13)

The below 5 items are due on Monday 4/29/13.  They can be written or typed.  Ensure you have an additional copy if it is handwritten as I will be collecting them from you.

1. List and explain your 5 businesses that are your competition.  Your competition is businesses that are similar to yours.  You need to complete this in 5 paragraphs (one paragraph per business). 

2. Analyze the websites of the above businesses similar to yours.  You need to complete this in 5 paragraphs (one paragraph per business).  You need to be critical when analyzing the websites.  What are they doing that is different from your business?  Describe the websites etc.

3. Create your hypothetical entrepreneurial profile.   This is simply a resume.  You are starting your business in 2013.  You should have graduated high school in 2007.  Also you should have graduated college before 2013.   In regards to your references they must be a mininum of 2 and a maximum of 3.

4. Give a list of your employees and give detailed job descriptions for at least 4 positions (one paragraph per position)


5. Create an employee manual. This sets forth your expectations for your employees, and describes what they can expect from your company.  It should describe your legal obligations as an employer, and your employees' rights. (You can find examples online) You must also have a signature page where employees sign indicating that they received the manual.  This should be on a separate page at the end of the manual. Week 11 (4/15/13 - 4/19/13)

Type your interview questions (to be emailed tonight 4/16/13)

Visit a business similar to yours.  Notice the layout, customers, actions of employees, stock etc

Finalize your start-up costs and your interview questions - Due 4/19/13

The first 10 sections of your binder are to be presented on tuesday 4/23/13.  This includes cover page, busines organization type, business name, logo, slogan, address, fax#, email address, telephone #, partnership agreement, mission statement, factors of production, options for financing, start up costs, target market, interview questions.

Week 10 (4/8/13 - 4/12/13)

Continue working on your startup cost for your business.  You need to type this in the form of a spreadsheet.  See excel spreadsheet for an example. (Economics Powerpoint section). You are advised to use this spreadsheet).  On Tuesday 4/9/13 you must email the completed spreadsheet to me by midnight. (transithistory@hotmail.com). 

On Wednesday  4/10/13 you must email the finalized spreadsheet to me by midnight. (transithistory@hotmail.com). 

The following are due Monday 15th April, 2013.  They must be typed, double line spacing and the font should be 12.   All items must be placed in your binder..remember to place them in protective sheets.  Your binder must have a cover sheet with the name of the business, logo, slogan, names of the partners or sole trader. 

a.  Factors of Production (no less than 4 paragraphs).  Remember to include how the factors of production will help your business.

b. Business Organization type and why you chose it

c. Business name, logo, slogan

d. Partnership Agreement (only for partnership not sole traders)

e. Mission statement (see handout section)

f. Options for financing (see handout section)

g. Startup Costs (see handout section)

h. Target Market (see handout section)

Week 9 (4/1/13 - 4/5/13)

1. Complete the first 4 elements of your business project.  These we will discuss daily in class. (See business project section)  They must be typed, times new roman, font size 12, and double line spacing.

Continue working on your startup cost for your business.  You need to type this in the form of a spreadsheet.  You will only be allowed $160,000.00 from the banker.  The maximum you can have is $200,000.00.  You must show where you will get the additional $40.000. 

Complete your factors of production (typed due monday in class - no less than 4 paragraphs)Week 8 (3/18/13 - 3/22/13)

Continue gathering information for your comparitive systems worksheet.

Begin planning your presentation and the information for your presentation board.

Take home essay:  culminating activity(Essay based upon economic systems).  See Economics Handouts Section .  Due 4/4/13

Week 7 (3/11/13 - 3/15/13)

Continue gathering information for your comparitive systems worksheet.

Week 6 (3/4/13 - 3/8/13)

Complete both powerpoints (money and modern economies)

Begin working on your business project (name, logo, location, slogan)

Week 5 (2/25/13 - 3/1/13) 

1. Complete the “Cost/Benefit Analysis of Being President of the United States,” for homework.3. Complete the take home assignment. Due Friday 25nd February, 2013

Week 4 (2/20/13 - 2/22/13)

1. Read the handout based upon opportunity costs

2. Complete the “Cost/Benefit Analysis of Being President of the United States,” for homework.3. Complete the take home project. Due Monday 25th February 2013

 

Week 3 (2/11/13 - 2/15/13)

1. Read the handout based upon opportunity costs

2. View the opportunity costs PowerPoint and complete the reflection questions in your notebook.

3.Complete the take midwinter project.  (Click on the economics projects link on the left).  Due Monday 25th  February, 2013. Remember your charts should be similar to the one used in today's class (see “What’s in it for Me?” Graphic Organizer) in this weeks handouts.

 

Week 2 (2/4/13 - 2/8/13)

1. Read the handout,  The reference for guided notes: the study of economics

2. Review the PowerPoint (Welcome to Economics on the PowerPoint page). 

3. Complete the reflection questions on the last side. (in your notebook)

4. Study for quiz

 

Week 1( 1/29/13 - 2/1/13)

Read and sign the contract as well as your parents.
