Welcome to United States History.  We will follow the basic outline listed below:

 

Unit I:   Gilded Age and Immigration                                                             3 weeks              

 

Unit II:  The United States as an Independent Nation in an

                   increasingly Interdependent World                                            2 weeks

 

Unit III:  Experiments in Government                                                          5 weeks             

 

Unit IV:  The United States between the Wars                                           4 weeks

                       

Unit V:   The United States Assumes Worldwide Responsibilities     5 weeks          

 

Unit VI:  The Changing Nature of the American People from   

                World War II to the Present                                                               4 weeks

 

Regents Review                                                                                                        4 weeks

           

Classroom Expectations:

1.)    No cell phones or iPods or other electronic devices permitted.

2.)    Show respect for yourself, for others, and for our school.

3.)    Be seated and ready to learn when the bell rings.

4.)    Leave all food and drink (except water) outside.

5.)    Demonstrate a positive attitude every day.

6.)    Participation is strongly encouraged and part of the grade.

7.)    Enjoy the class!

Materials:

1.)    Notebook for Homework

2.)    Ink Pens and Pencils

3.)    Three-ring Binder w/ Dividers (Essential for Review)

4.)    Your Textbook & Appropriate Materials – Every Day!

5.)    Stapler


       Students absent from class are responsible for meeting with me at an appropriate time concerning any assignment, test, etc… missed.  It is the responsibility of the absent student to obtain all missed work and assignments when they are absent.  This information will be on the website/blog. http://msbutcher.edublogs.org/  Students must hand in a doctor’s note or a note from their parent with contact information if they are absent.  Material that was known about in advance and due on the missed day will be due on the day of return, no extension of deadlines or tests in this instance.  

     


Assignments:

      Homework is due at the end of the week unless otherwise specified.  Homework and projects will be available on the website http://msbutcher.edublogs.org/ Homework and projects/ assignments must be handed in during class time only.  If you are absent on the day the project/assignment is to be handed in it must be emailed to me no later than the end of the class period.  Daily work will not be accepted late.  All work is to be handed in during class…No Exceptions.  I will not be taking work from students outside of the classroom.  In the event that students are late for class they must bring a note from their parent with the contact information of the parent.    Quizzes will usually occur on a daily basis.  They are over the nightly reading and you may use notes. 


Remember:  Each of you is ultimately responsible for your own learning.  I will attempt to provide an environment and experiences that facilitate the process.  Please arrange to meet with me before school, at lunch, or after school if you have any questions or need additional assistance with the class.
